This is the first book in the series - American Yakuza. Currently, there are four books and I read all of them in a week. The last book ended with a cliffhanger so I know there will be more, well I hope there will be more. Each book built on the other so you should start with this book and then move on to the other three. The story reminds me of Ali Vali’s Cain Casey series except this is set in San Francisco and the gangsters love interest is not as naive as Vali’s love interest for Cain. The gangster in this one is head of the Yakuza which rankles the establishment because the Oyabun is a woman. Isabella’s gangster is violent, loves women, and rules with an iron fist. The love interest is a reporter who has seen her share of violence and wants an interview with the gangster.

The characters are fun to read and even though the main character is a gangster, as a reader, you want her to get the girl. This story differs from Vali’s in that Isabella adds an added sexual component of BDSM. If this type of preference bothers you then definitely steer clear of the this book. However, if you are intrigued and want to get a taste, read this book. The sex is fabulous and the love story builds throughout the entire story.
