I read for entertainment first, knowledge second. This book is full of information regarding the struggles a woman goes through when her best friend dies as well as dealing with childhood traumas. I don’t mind reading books like this but if I pick up a book to read that is supposed to be a romance, I want more romance than struggle. Don’t get me wrong, Aten does a good job of writing about her characters struggles and guilt but I want to feel good not overwhelmed. If this had been a poorly written book, I would have put the novel down. This book was written well and I was engaged because I wanted to see the character make her life better.
The two main characters in this book are immediately drawn to each other and they both feel a comfort neither one had experienced before. One is a firefighter who has a coping mechanism that to me was set up as a good symbol of good versus evil. The other character who I think could have been developed a little more was the love interest of the firefighter. The sex was non-existent. Alluded to but that’s all.
