All I See Is You ~ Lily Hammond

❤❤❤❤❤

I don’t gush, but I’m going to gush about this book. This is such a wonderful story. Hammond sets the tone for the book in the first third of the book. This is a period piece set in the 1930’s during the depression in New Zealand. Much the same as the depression in America. Her description of time, place, and character is some of the best I’ve read.

The first part of the book focuses on one of the main characters. A young woman fresh off the boat from England lands in Dunedin, New Zealand. The interesting characteristic of this person is that she cannot speak. Hammond has to describe what the character feels, sees, hears, everything through description. Although, the woman in this story is young and somewhat inexperienced, you never feel as if she is a victim because of her thinking. She’s a victim because of her circumstances.

The other main character is who you would picture a independent woman of the 30’s would be if she was wealthy. This character is also someone you want to win because of how Hammond describes her. Lonely, heartsick, looking for someone to love and be loved by. I’m sure you’re wondering, why I haven’t said anything about sex since that seems to be what I look for in the romance novels I read. Well, there is sex and its lovely and fits the two characters. If you want to read this novel, select the link All I See Is You.
