I don’t know what it is that attracts me, but I love to read books set in remote locations like Alaska or Australia or the UK. Perhaps because I’ve never been, well I have been to Alaska, but only on a cruise so I really didn’t see Alaska. Kris Bryant does a wonderful job of helping the reader see Alaska. After I finished reading this book, I wanted to go back to see the real Alaska.
The two main characters in this story are exactly what you’d hope to read about in a romance. One character is a park ranger and is always coming to the rescue of the other character who is a reporter. The reporter had come to Alaska to write an article on fishing, but ends up writing the article on an animal sanctuary that helps injured and displaced animals. An additional character in the story is cute and you wish you had one as a pet. As always with Bryant, the sex is steamy.
The underlying message in the story speaks to poaching. Poaching is a real concern all over the world and I know we don’t think much about in the lower 48 states as the Alaskans call us, but it should be. If you think about all the animals that are going extinct because of greed, it makes you sad to think that we as humans are the perpetrators of this disgusting practice.
