Finding Tranquility ~ Laura Heffernan
Published January 2020 ~ Empress Books
Spoiler alert - No sex in this book. Not that there needs to be sex, but if I’m reading a romance I want some sex. Said it before, I’ll say it again. With that being said, I liked this book. The reason I liked this book is the subject matter. This story is about two women who love each other and have loved each other since they were fourteen. The kicker is that one of the women is trans-gendered. Well, I guess its not a kicker, but the situation does add a twist to the love story.
This is the first book I’ve read by Heffernan and I probably won’t read anymore. Not because I don’t think the writing is good or that the story wasn’t interesting, this book just wasn’t my jam. I mean come on, no sex. I want a little sex. The characters in this book are women, full blown women. The trans-gendered character had the complete surgery and the book mentions the character having other lovers so why not sex between the two main characters.
This story does a good job of weaving the tale of a man who knows he’s not who he should be and struggles with being in love with his wife. An opportunity arises that allows him to redo his life and he takes it. He faces gay bashing and how to get his life on track. Heffernan writes from both the husband and the wife’s perspective so you get a feel for both characters, but her main focus the trans-gendered character. I would recommend if you don’t mind the lack of sex. If you want to read this book, select the link Finding Tranquility.
