Jae recommended this book on Facebook so I had to read it. And I’m so glad I did. I loved this book but not for the reason you might think. Gardner knows how to use her words and I don’t mean everyday words. I mean words that you don’t usually find in books such as umbrage, perspicacity, loquacious, erudite, prevaricate. I could go on. And the best part of this word usage is that as a reader you don’t think this type of verbiage is out of place. Both the characters have the kind of education and intelligence that these types of words match.
The story was well written even though it was straight girl, realizing she was gay, realizing she was falling in love with resident lesbian doctor. This is another slow burn story where you are three quarters of the way through the book before there is any kind of physical action between the two characters. The characters are well-crafted as I mentioned above, but there was no real antagonist in the story. I like a little angst in my stories as well. The closest angst in the story was the lesbian doctor thought the straight woman would never truly be hers. If you want to read this novel, select the link Jericho.
